The closest I have heard is Moto E but that's 4.3 inch and I don't think will overlap much with Z3 due to size difference ...Other than that there are bunch of unbranded Androids but they don't have enough brand value to offset blackberry.
So is Z3 playing in its own league?

Yes they are. Z3 seems to be in its own league.

    Moto G isn't a 5 inch screen phone.

Yes but close enough . It's not the big names BlackBerry has to worry about in the Indonesian market. There are a lot of android based devices coming out of China which make their way into the Asian markets which have compelling offerings when compared to higher priced flagship devices. That is BlackBerry's competition for this market.

Yes but I think people value the BlackBerry brand higher than a noname android based device. It's all about effective marketing.

Probably Moto G, homegrown Android OEMs and Nokia is making a big push with Android models like Nokia XL for SE Asia. Having dual sim is a big differentiator in SE Asian markets so there is concern for the Z3 lacking that, we'll have to see.

It became popular because of its pricing in this region. android isn't known for quality devices in 90% of all its devices that it runs on. I also find it extremely odd that somehow people think android OS looks modern... it's pretty damn bland to me. Maybe people are referring to the apps and not the UI of its OS.

Out of the box, sure vanilla Android is a bit boring. But most people add launchers, widgets, etc to fine tune the UI to their liking. Same thing for devices that have a manufacturer skin on them. Some people like the skins, others don't and again will make use of a launcher. The vast customization is what attracts people to the platform. In the 4 years I've used Android devices, I've noticed that I haven't varied much on how I set up my home screens, so now certain functions are more muscle memory than anything.

yes they are but they aren't the most 'bang for the buck' since all the native Android OEMs also get their phones made in cheap labor locations and have brand and distribution channels already in place. As a consequence the competition for Nexus 5 are flagship devices not the middle market.
