BB 10 was released the way it was during 10.0 because they were under the gun to do so. Can be said half-baked, but not because of intentional omission of features, more like due to intense time pressure and feature triage. During the months building up to BB 10 launch date, those were very very gloomy months and if BlackBerry did not absolutely deliver BB 10 out the door on January 30th, they could never again be trusted to deliver anything on time if at all. Even then they failed miserably in releasing the Z10s to the US market on time and wasting the Super Bowl ad altogether.

Considering that QNX is a proprietary UNIX based OS owned by BlackBerry...
Only for the last few years. QNX has a long, long, long history before BlackBerry.

I think if QNX had been a German, or Korean, or American company, BlackBerry might have just gone with Linux and then focused their limited resources higher on the stack. They would have made better progress faster.

Anyway, water under the bridge at this point. The point is this wasn't some grand scheme.

It is the evolution of an OS just take a look at Windows and Android for example

Windows XP Second Best Os ever
Windows Vista HOLY Effing Memory lacking mess.
    Windows 7 Best OS ever
Windows 8 OH GOD ITS VISTA ON CRACK ALL OVER AGAIN
    Windows 8.1 Finally going somewhere.

    Android Froyo 2.2. Holy Mess
    Gingerbread 2.3 Work in progress
Honeycomb WTF were they thinking wtf is this xhit
Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 Lots of improvements
Jelly Bean They finally got it somewhat right
Kitkat Meh exact same thing as above with minor bug improvements

    And now Blackberry 10
BB7 What is this freaking 2006?
BB10 Amazing improvements but very basic
    BB10.1 Much better
BB10.2 If not the best one of the best OS in the mobile industry as of right now.

Dont even get me started on iOS

OP, respectfully, what you describe is basically "shooting themselves a bullet in the feet".
I can't believe this might be possible.
If you worked for BlackBerry you'd understand their propensity to shoot themselves in the foot or in some cases in the head. Honestly, John Chen is a breath of fresh air and likely reminds old-time BlackBerry users of the innovative attitude Mike Lazardis had when Research In Motion was an industry pioneer.

iOS 1 -3 same exact limited non-multitasking environment.
iOS 4-5 same exact limited non-multitasking environment with somewhat improved icon designs
(heavily dependent of iphone model) Also minor but constant full effing system updates to prevent jailbreaking. Also hurrr durr splash screen
iOS 6 Same as above with ripple screen becoming even more closed,
iOS 7 Same as above I guess cartoon colors are in fashion so let’s copy Microsoft metro abstract colors because yeah!! hipsters. So much for innovation yet still claimed to be innovation. If not therefore it is logic + FULL ****** icloud lock implementation. Most closed environment in the mobile industry. Also heavily dependent on hardware once again.
