Hey guys I just got into AT&T and I'm paying the extra $30 a month for the data plan, but what exactly does that mean? Do I have the ability to connect it to my laptop and use the wireless network for as long or as much data as I want? I know when I was with verizon, there were all sorts of clauses and stuff you had to follow or pay extra for in order to use their connect software, I just hope AT&T isn't like that.
The standard data plan only accounts for using the phone itself. If you are wanting to connect it to a laptopr, ATT has a separate plan to allow that type of usage.
Kerry,
I your $30 a month entitles you to unlimited data access directly through you wireless device. This includes unlimited email access. If you would like to hook your BB up to your computer and use it as a modem you will have to pay an additional fee of $30. The term for this service is tethering. When you are tethering on AT&T there is a maximum download allowance of 5GB per month.
The data plan you have gives you unlimited data access (email,
internet, instant messaging).
It does not allow you to tether (use phone as modem) that is a
seperate cost. Nor does the basic data plan include texting.
There is a $50 plan that gives you unlimited data and text.
