So my gps just got unlocked but when I'm tracking myself all I see is green and blue on the map which I think is the terrain but I don't see any streets that I'm driving on. Anyone have this problem before?

You need to correct your profile information. Verizon has the 8330 Curve, not the 8900. Secondly, the rumor has it that GPS is unlocked only on the latest beta OS for the Pearl and Curve.
Which GPS app are you using? Google Maps will have to update their application to use the internal GPS. BBMaps works now.
Erm, there is a RIM API to figure out if an app has access to GPS or not, or if a GPS internal device even exists, the internal GPS stuff worked already just fine on the non-CDMA versions of the BBs, as long as Google coded their apps properly in the first place, as even hobbled users could get GPS turned on I thought, it should just work?
I can cause the green and blue effect by turning off the GPS and adjusting the zoom level to not show streets. That suggests to me that your GPS may not be working. Is the terrain representation changing as you move? Try changing your zoom level and see if streets appear.

yea the terrain is moving and when i set directions it shows the lines i should be following but theres no streets and i have already adjusted the zoom
BBMaps should show streets, even if the GPS isn't working. I don't understand the problem. I assume you do have a data plan and are not using wifi. BBMaps has to have internet access to download maps. Is the terrain shown realistic? In my experience when BBMaps doesn't have data, it just shows a black diagonal grid.

Well, you've about got me stumped. We've missed something, so let's review the basics. Exactly what version OS are you running? The full four fields, not just the last digits.
In Options / Advanced Options / GPS, what do you show for GPS Data Source? Do you have GPS Services set to "Location ON," or whatever the "not just 911 services" setting is called in 4.5?
In BBMaps / Options / GPS Source, what do you have? Do you show a value for Data Downloaded?
Which GPS app are you using? Google Maps will have to update their application to use the internal GPS. BBMaps works now.
My Verizon dealer told me yesterday that the 4.5 device software upgrade is NOT for my 8830 model. I wanted that upgrade to see if I too can use BBMaps with unlocked GPS. Was my dealer misinformed??
Your dealer is correct in that there is not yet an official OS4.5 for the 8830. However, people who have installed the 8830 OS 4.5 betas that are out there report the GPS works with BBMaps, not with Google Maps.

No. But there are leaked beta releases of 4.5 for the 8830. However it is not permitted to link to these releases on CB for legal reasons.
Alright so I have 4.5.0.97 gps source is gps device and its set to location and not 911. I am also receiving data in BBmaps and my gps source is internal gps. Thanks

Have you rebooted your device by doing a battery pull? Make a backup, then take out the battery with the phone on. Leave it out for about 30 seconds. Put it back. Among other things, that will force a rebuild of the indexes and reload the operating system into contiguous memory and may fix the problem.
After rebooting, see if BBMaps is now working.
If it's not, do you have any other GPS programs running? Alt-Esc will show you what's running. BBMessenger (if installed), Phone Log, Browser, Messages, and Home Screen will always be running. If anything else is running after the battery pull reboot, what is it?
I've tried the battery pull and no difference and there isn't any other program running. I also forgot to mention that my gps is tracking where I'm going and it even tells me how fas I'm going even without it telling me what street I'm on

Look in Options / Advanced Options / Service Books. If there is a bbmaps service book (I don't have one in os4.2), then delete it. Do a battery pull, go back to Service Books, press menu and Undelete. If it's a service book problem, that should fix it.
The only other step I can think of is to wipe your device and reload your OS. Something is either wrong with bbmaps, or with the OS or bbmaps.
