I was just at Best Buy and placed my pre-order for a BB10 phone.
On the screen it said "Street Date: January 31". "Availability: TBD"

Is it possible we could see them that soon?

This has been discussed at length in numerous other threads. Yes, it is theoretically possible for them to be available that soon, but ultimately the various dates floating in the wild are pretty difficult to trust, so we've got to wait until the launch event before we hear anything definite about the Street Date.

I don't think we can judge anything about the upcoming launch based on anything from the past. After all, they've never had a dedicated launch event before. It used to be during CES, or their BlackBerry World. But this time, they have a dedicated day for a worldwide launch.

So just like many have been saying, hold your breath, be patient. Less than a week until BB10 launch!!

If BB10 phones are available at retail on January 31, it would be a triumph of the "new" RIM.

There has been next to no indication that phones would be available that soon, so just keeping that street date secret will have been something of a triumph.

More importantly: RIM just about drove itself into oblivion by failing to meet expectations. If they're back in the business of exceeding them, this could get interesting
