    What does the standby button do? and if that all it does its a waist of hardware could of done that with another hit of the red end key
    If they been smart. Can you change the mapping of the hard button on the top of the curve 8330 ?

    Easiest first. No you can't change the mapping of the buttons.

    Standby is pretty much the same as putting your phone in a case
    or holster with a proximity sensor magnet. It shuts off the screen
    and extends the available use time of your battery. Some people
    do not use cases or holsters so this is very helpful.

    Also, it is used to mute a phone call.

    Yes the call is still active. There are some times when you need
    the person you are talking to not to here your side of what is
    happening. The call stays active but the other party cannot hear
    anything o your end.

    Oh I was referring to the fact that it mutes the noise when someone is calling you. So your phone stops making a noise, but it's still ringing on their side.

    Sorry, one more thing. If you are in a place where you cannot
    answer the call pressing that button also will silence the ringer.
