My renewal date is November 1, so I'm going to grab the Tour since I'm on Sprint.

But is there any wifi enabled device on the horizon for Sprint? I'm not into the all touchscreen phones so even if the Storm ever came to Sprint that wouldn't really be an option for me.

I know everyone has commented that one of the few basic shortcomings of the Tour was the lack of wifi so I'm wondering if Sprint and/or Verizon are working to introduce a model with wifi and the physical keyboard.

I know that Sprint talked about releasing a WiFi enabled version of the tour early 2010. It should essentially be the same exact phone, just with wi-fi capabilities. Sprint has a new thing where any new smartphones they release they require them to have wifi. So far the only Wifi phone sprint has is the palm pre. My contract with them is up for renewal in December, I may wait it out for the wi-fi tour, or i might just get the tour they have now. Depends if there is an official release date or not by then.

The 8350i with direct connect has wifi. It's nextel branded though and the service usually stinks compared to a regular sprint blackberry.

Thanks, so the Essex IS the codename for a model similar to the Tour to be introduced sometime in 10'. I also didn't have any interest in the Nextel curve.

I wouldn't consider any "talks" that Sprint may have had about any future releases with much validity. We all know what a release date in Sprint language is.

Another possibility is Atlas, CDMA 8900. There have been stories posted that Sprint is started to push for Wi-fi enabled smartphones.

Hey, if you go to Blackberry's website: BlackBerry - New BlackBerry PDA Smartphones - New Cell Phones & Smart Phones,
they have the Tour listed with GPS and Wi-Fi(but it's probably a typo, cause the Wi-Fi is not listed on the specs.

I would hold on your Curve, and if by some miracle, at the beginning of the year we get the wifi, you win. If not, you can make a better decision to go for the Tour at that point.

Atlas is NOT a CDMA device...

Sal thought it was a cdma device, but when he had it in his hands it was a GSM phone, probably meant for non 3 g Asian markets.

I had the same decision to make but I got the tour and its great. If the essex has a lot of upgrades I might buy it off of ebay. I would suggest doing that.

I'm debating on waiting for the Essex(Tour 2), getting a Touch Pro 2, or keeping my Sprint Curve and getting line with Verizon for a Storm2 since I would love to have wi-fi.
