Performance will vary depending on the coverage in your particular location.
If you want to see less variation in coverage, stick with Verizon or AT&T. If you don't need consistent coverage around the country and some other carrier works well in your location, that might work for you too.
People should be careful about making silly extrapolations about things like service quality unless they have traveled extensively around the country and done scientific tests. Otherwise it's just one data point.
