Is it possible to use the Sprint GPS even when you are out of Sprint tower coverage? I was in New Mexico the other week, and in a portion where coverage was very spotty, and my GPS was worthless. It could not connect to any service at all. Any thoughts?

If you have no service, then you have no maps for the GPS to do anything with. Remember, the maps are coming through as data. If you have no service, it would be like trying to load google maps on your computer with no internet connection. The phone's GPS knows exactly where it is but has no means of displaying it because you have no data connection to load a map.

If you use an application that doesn't use data or maps and just shows you stuff like coordinates, direction, speed, altitude, etc, that would continue to work fine.
