Nobody ever thought that the US wants to phase out BlackBerry. All the carriers are told by the government not to sell BlackBerry because of the high level of security. Since IOS and Android are easy to hack the government wants to spy on everybody and they can't do that too much with if BlackBerry reclaimed some of that glory. Idk things just don't seem right to me it's like the other companies are always sideline dissing BlackBerry if anyone has noticed.

Carriers are known for slow updates for Android devices in the US, yet Android's adoption rate continues to rise. People really don't move on because of lack of updates because most people don't know that the updates exist in the first place. Only forum visitors keep up with this kind of information.

If everyone moved to a different platform because of lack of updates, there would be only hackers left on BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Android. Everyone else would have moved on to iPhones because those are the only phones that get updates "on time".

Good luck to them. Shouldn't the government have the smartest, best professionals in each of there designated area of expertise? Is it sad that even the best can't break the security parameters of a Blackberry? Guess we know Blackberry has an elite security team.

Something doesn't make sense: if the government is forcing people to move away from BlackBerry cause it's easier to hack... then they are exposing themselves too... government I phones and Androids will be easier to hack by the Chineses

Maybe we should rename this thread
"BlackBerry wants to exit the us market because that would explain the two month delay of the Z and the nearly four month delay of the Q as well as the crappy super bowl commercial and performance since "

    Maybe thats too long though...

Uh, the U.S. federal government is much more concerned with its own security and preventing bad things from happening (usually through regulations and tight controls) than violating other peoples' security by spying on them.

I actually think there may be some truth to the fact that BB is not liked by the government for the reason you mention, but I don`t think they would go as far as to phase it out.

I recall the US government stood to defend Blackberry amidst a controversy in the developing world that Blackberry devices were being used by terrorists. The NSA and PRISM have been around years during the pinnacle of BB OS7. The NSA controversy is not during a spying "ramp up" and BB10 is even less secure than BB OS7.

That the US government (or any major world power) feels any threat from the "security" of Blackberry is silly.

    TinFoil Hat on:

Ok so lets say they do. Is it the phone itself? I say no. They caught wind of the release of BBM on all platforms (just prior to the official press release) . Since the other platforms are gaping holes for them, the last thing they want is a secure communication methodology which has a certain branding and potential to 'catch on'. Secure communication is the last thing they want regular consumers have. But alas, the government in its slowness is joining the party late to try to stop it.

    /Tinfoil hat off

I could expand that even further but I am not a fiction writer.

So we've had the blame being placed on the media... the carriers... the consumers (for being "sheep")... and now the government.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that maybe, just maybe, RIM/Blackberry is at fault for taking 5 years to respond to the iPhone with a product that can compete which happens to be "too little, too late" for them.

I've always felt that Andriod has a leg up on BBerry, at least at the device level, precisely because it's so open. I'm certain there are a number of US based security software companies that could or are writing specialised protocols and applications to exceed any off-the-shelf products hands down. Didn't the recent DOD announcement opening up the procurement to Andriod and IOS indicate custom software would be running on all platforms ? Given BES10 now manages those platforms, it makes it attractive to embrace other custom platforms.

Is BBerry resting on their laurels again ???
