I'm running 1055 and unfortunately when I am on a file (a picture for example) I cannot "share" it to the APK apps.
No you cant, and you know i know that already. You have to do it the reverse way, go into app and then open picture. Its a pain (i guess) but it still works.

I said 'weren't'. Such a stickler yet completely reversed what I said. How odd.
Indeed, I actually noticed that immediately, and hit "edit", but my internet has been stalling all day, and it did once again. After killing the browser and returning, I did not bother trying again, as felt the point quite clear. I apologize if it confused you. I'm not sure why you'd call me a "stickler"...in fact, in any lengthy post I make, the quality of my spelling, grammar, and organization vary greatly depending on haste and device: phone, netbook, laptop, desktop, etc. I often see typos in any lengthy post I make, and sometimes go back, but often just leave them, believing the context will make the meaning clear for most.

In fact, I don't recall criticizing other people's grammar or spelling to any great extent - certainly less than many posters here. (I recently was aghast at an insinuation that arguments presented by somebody who's first language was presumably not English were of lesser value and merit) . It's true however, that I am a content stickler, which I am sure most people are aware of by now. If your content is in error, yes, I may well make an issue of it! In this case, in regard to the definition of a key concept being thrown about, I felt it very relevant to point it out, and as you can see, others did too. In fact, had you both been using the same definition, the discussion would probably have been much more cogent and flowing.

Tell you what, 99.9% of these threads are anecdotal evidence.
Sigh....lol. Yes....99.9%...according to the most recent study! :-) Actually, while many posters are unable to generalize beyond their individual experiences - leading to rather vacuous posts, I believe others are quite able to do so.

If we went facts and figures only this would be a very lonely place.
First, nobody said we should. In a discussion forum, it would be folly to do so, and I have argued against it frequently when confronted by posters who -often unable to properly evaluate evidence/opinion themselves - demand "proof" for any statement they dislike for which they have no proof. Chronically they will wax and whine about posters who are just "speculating" and insist we not do any "speculating".....when the speculating leads to a conclusion they dislike. HOWEVER, evaluating material presented as evidence is not calling for "facts and figures" only, it is calling for a thoughtful and critical evaluation - a simple and important part of which is distinguishing between anecdotal evidence and evidence having more rigorous support.

You for instance Richard have questioned my intelligence in several threads,
I don't recall these specific threads, however I certainly will take your word for it, as to be honest, it is true that I find myself questioning your intelligence regularly. That is true, and I may well have done so in threads.

yet I have never asked you to provide your I.Q. so I may compare it to mine.
Well, first, it would be important to note that our self-report of our IQ's would not be reliable evidence - so I'd question your methodology immediately. Second, I think you should note that "IQ", as frequently measured (for example Stanford-Binet etc) is a highly controversial subject. The nature of intelligence is unclear ( i believe), and thus, it is a very open question what construct is actually being tested - let alone how such a construct would have a direct bearing on this forum, this thread, or our respective posts. Some theorists have markedly different measures/paradigms for intelligence. Finally, I have not had my IQ measured in a proper test in quite some time - I don't believe many people have, although I frequently find people touting IQ tests they took online - my response much to the anger of one my friends was: if you think the internet IQ test has any validity whatsoever, you have demonstrated you most certainly are not a "genius". In any case, if it is helpful to your argument, I was as a child tested and received a score of 142 - apparently the most striking part of the testing however, was in fact my reading level - my mother was told I was reading at a first year university level at age 11 or 10 (I don't recall now). I like to believe that despite repeated mild concussions from wrestling and martial arts, and despite an extremely inappropriate amount of slurpee and other junk-food that i am still reading at a first year university level - but perhaps that is just my narcissism.

    Instead I simply report.
Simply report what? LOL. To whom? Are we still talking about evaluating evidence within posts as seemed to be your initial premise? Are you reporting to mods? Do you report that I have only anecdotal evidence in regards to your intelligence!? :-) If you're reporting the insults, good for you. I was not aware of that, but you have every right to, and if the mods think what I did was inappropriate in the context it was done then I must abide by their judgment! You are doing the right thing - I mean that.

So if you have a problem with my statements you are referring to, simply report them.
Uh....again....unclear. You want me to report (to mods?) that I don't believe you are using the term "anecdotal" correctly?? I....don't think that is within their purview! LOL.

If I was not clear, I did not think your statements to be in violation of the forum, nor did I feel they should be disallowed!

However, I can tell you that as this is my profession, I believe I have first hand knowledge to back up what I have stated.
Uh...yes exactly...again....you've just reconfirmed that you don't understand why people are calling this anecdotal. Incidentally, I agree that Android no-name tablets sell well. My guess is that no-name Chinese tablets might account for....oh...maybe even 30% of sales...perhaps more! The name brands, Apple, Lenovo, HP, Samsung, Amazon, and the rest are of course a different animal.

Are you, guys, not discussing Android Runtime implementation in BB10?

If so, the lack of integration between the OS and Android apps can be a significant problem in the alleged closing of the app gap, whereas Bold's getting an iPhone will not.

I have a question. Would a dev submitting an APK to BBworld vs a converted APK to BAR be able to manage their app just as if it were an APK on android? Would this save them the trouble of having to manage another platform?
I don't see why not. If the dev updates their app in Google Play, all they would have to do is take that same APK and submit it to BlackBerry Word. One thing I noticed about the existing ported Android apps on BB10 is that they don't always follow the same update schedule as they do on Android. At times I see an Android app get updated 2-3 times in a span of a few months, whereas the exact same ported app on BlackBerry is still on the initial release. I can't chalk that up to anything but the dev not caring to take the time to repackage and submit an updated BAR.

I wouldn't expect you to understand having joined after there were various bold models. Does it upset you that the app gap is not closed?

    1) This is Worldwide (and you are talking about the US, where the "others" is about 15-20%)

    2) The "others" include brand names as well. So, 38% is NOT all no-name tablets without access to GPlay.

    3) 38% means that at least (see point 2 above) 62% have an app store pre-installed. I guess at least 62% is more "typical", than at most 38%. That's speaking of "typical" or "average".

You definitely don't know how to interpret numbers.

I guess you could say that as well, it's pretty much the same to me except you don't need the cable. Kind of like downloading Google maps from Google in the BBOS phones. It's not from BlackBerry World, but you are loading it.

And the numbers don't mean anyhting as long as you don't clean them to exclude Business Customers and just take the figures for the consumers..... hmmmm..... After a quick search on google, I was not able to come up with those figures.

Hence, I still trust the wise Words of WInston Churchill (funny enough both his names are cigarette and cigar brands.... some of you may know that he was a passionate smoker)

"I only believe the statistics, I have faked myself."

In any way, shape or form: All this debate does is tell you: When Best buy or other specialist stores is selling the more expensive stuff, they are doing a great job at it.

When the small retailers go in and sell the cheap versions, the demand is large enough to provoke a sell out large quantities.

When you look at the wealth inequality of the US, then it is clear why and how many people will be the target group of similar products with different price points.

When I use my Z10 for research, I am still fed up, that I cannot extend the screen to a dumb screen.

So now that all my future apps are coming from android what is the point of buying a bb device exactly?

They never have the latest hardware because they dont actually design or produce components themselves like Samsung, LG and Sony.

They have unjustifiably high prices unlike Motorola and LG.

There are no Google services unlike all other android phones...

What am I buying a BB for? For swiping words off a keyboard instead of swyping letters on an android??

Many of you dont realize these short terms gains will ultimately harm bb long term.

I want mobile computing. The days of walled garden experiences are over.

BB10 allows for full computing capabilities. We don't have a dumbed down os on a mobile device. People need to realize this. This includes having easy access to software, services and capabilities.
I agree with you about the dumb thing. Nothing dumb with the device, just the ridiculous amount of times people ask the same dumb questions rather than doing the reading. But, you lost me with the "Walled Garden" reference!
We have several acres with a pool. Without the wall, we'd definitely get arrested. I could tell you about some resent walled garden experiences
    but I'd probably get banned!
Besides... my Z10 works just fine with the wall.

(I can't find a walled garden experience that's "family rated" so this'll have to do)

And what would a day be like without someone whining about why they hate their mobile device?
Somebody.. PLEZZZZ explain to me why they don't just get a device that makes them happy.

Life's too short to be wasting time on the negative!

Life works out best for those that make the best out of the way life works out!

    Be happy!

    By the way..

I reminds me strongly of IBM OS 2 and DOS.

IBM wanted to make it easy for developers to create apps for their OS, therefore they were enabling DOS apps to run on it. However Microsoft has been fighting dirty and changing their OS rapidly. This is why IBM always had to catch up.
In the end, the superior OS has lost because nobody bothered to write specifically for it since it was less popular.

The same can be argued here and may be the reason we se no Apple runtime.

Because BlackBerry plays the same part as Amazon, the argument is moot.

You can more realistically compare it to Mac vs Windows and Macs emulators....

The reason to buy a BlackBerry is to be different and to have the best of both worlds. The whole OS is lag free on comparable hardware and the UI with all the swiping is way more efficient in my opinion.

Those are the same arguments that have been fought when Apple came along PDAs with WinMo 6 were capable of way more stuff.
The better UI has prevailed and soon, you were able to copy and paste as well.

Right now we have the latest and greatest and Apple has been playing catch up to our supreme UI.

The PlayBook might have been a failure due to lack of functionality ; meaning apps.

The milestone with the UI further prospers in the latest OS7 update.

What BlackBerry is not allowed to do is slow down with improvements and innovation.

I am still using the first Gen device and the last 9 Months have been amazing.

The leaps made are comparable to at least 3 years of Android or Apple OS development.

Next year QNX will be able to power the latest and greatest in Hardware and the "lame specs" will be a thing of the past.

Integrating the phone horizontally into the existing hardware ecosystem and to make it able to power dumb tablets and screens, the new hardware will be sorely needed.

Right now with 10.2, they have mainly delivered a complete OS

10.2.1 shows that the new gizmos like fuse are the preparation of that next great milestone.
The focus now purely lies on putting "mobile computing" in place.

Taking 2011 With the PlayBook as a start, it has come a long way in 3 years. Just like Apple or Android.
    The main difference here is:
The vision is clear and the strides towards it are getting faster and faster.

I want to have all the little nuggets from OS 7 inside the OS. I am still missing quite a few.

I want BBM voice to work without natural sound when the coverage only permits a small bit rate.

I want it to be as far advanced as it will be in a years time, Today!

The reason I love my BlackBerry is the constant progress I see every month!
