    Sms is Short Message Service, limited to 160 character messages. MMS is Multi Media Service to send larger files, pics, and longer messages.

    SMS is a text message, nothing more. MMS is a multimedia
    message, one that includes pictures, video, voice recordings, etc.

    Or an MMS can be used as a message that will be able to exceed more than the limited 160 characters on an SMS.

    One more difference: MMS requires a data plan. SMS does not. Not all carriers offer MMS.
