Correct me if I am wrong, but is RIM the only smartphone maker with some of it's production in North America?

Some = less than "all" but more than "a little" (had to do it)

Some would be the phones that are manufactured (assembled) in Canada and Mexico. The remainder being manufactured in Hungary. I'm sure there are other locations but they don't come readily to mind.

There was a previous thread on this topic here:

    http://forums.crackberry.com/general...canada-725269/

Assembly locations cited in that thread included:
    Canada, Hungary, Mexico, India, Malaysia

I don't know if any recent BB models have been assembled in Canada

Components come from all over the place, of course.

It is unfortunate that some companies (especially ones with a $100 billion in cash) do not manufacture at home. Oh well, it is nice to know that we are creating jobs for the Koreans and Chinese.

A bit of a digression, but if you get bored and if your device has an FCC number, then go here:

    OET -- FCC ID Search

    Type in your FCC number

And read through a bunch of info that may or may not prove to be interesting.

I think smartphone production on the typical "western" countries in generel is down to such a low number it doesn't even matter. Nokia had factories in finland and germany, but closed them down. Even the one in hungary has been closed recently. Production goes to china (of course).
AFAIK RIM at least assambles the high quality models like the Porsche Bold in Canada.
