After going back to my Bold 9780 last week, I all of a sudden have an appreciation of its size and uniqueness. While modern phones all look like giant glass slabs, my Bold 9780 stands out as being a true small one-hander, beautiful, pocketable device with a battery life to die for. Of course, I enjoy this device while accepting the fact that my screen is smaller.

I wonder if BlackBerry has something similar in the works.

You should chek out the R-Series, pretty much a BB10 curve, but it seems to be along the lines of what you're looking for.

I sure hope not . I really do not think there is any need for a BB10 micro- QWERTY smartphone. The Curve uses BB7(BIS) and this OS is probably better for owners in India, Indonesia and Nigeria . The R- models will be lower spec versions of the Q and possibly the Z using all plastics etc. but appear to be the same size. I doubt that there is much of a market for a 2.45 inch screen smartphone in North America. BB has said that the screen resolution of future BB10 - QWERTY devices will be 720 x 720 which rules out the Curve. Pretty hard to use a gesture based OS on a small screen device.

The R series is in line with the Curve as far as size. More info to come at BB Live.

I guess we will see if this is the case when the Q10 comes out.

That very white, plastic device has already been shown in an earlier leaked picture showing it side-by-side with a Z10 and a Q10. That speculated "R"-Series device has about the same size as the Q. Even if it actually would be smaller, it wouldn't be enough to even matter.

I had the 9700 and then had a black and a white 9780, so I spent lots of time on that device...and as soon as I got my 9900, I realized that there would be no going back to a device that small. I don't think BlackBerry 10 would function very well on a screen any smaller than the Q10's. For all the gestures and swipes, you kinda need some room to spread out and not be cramped.

OP, I see where your coming from. When the Playbook finally got bridge support with text messaging and BBM, I was seriously considering picking up a Pearl just because it's so small and would be nice in the pocket.

From the leaked road map that I remember seeing on here a while back I think R and Z will be the smallest
