I heard a rumor that if you have a device with 256 mb that when you get a slimmed down version of os 6.0. Has anyone else heard this and also if its true what would a slimmed down version be like?
The question (if true) is what will slimmed mean? Less animations, less applications, less what? For one I do hope that removing all the touch screen things will bring the OS6 size down enough to fit the 9700....
If 512mb is needed for os6 to be optimal then you have two options on 256mb, a poorer experience speedwise due to lack of memory or they have to cut things out so it runs well enough, the latter approach sounds like the better option to me as you would get as many upgrades as possible to your device without it performing badly.
As far as these suggestions that removing touch support would save a lot of space, that is just hopelessly optimistic, that stuff just wouldn't save you very much at all in all likelihood.
I see current devices just not getting 6.0. Why give people updates to their current phone if a lot of them will pay the money to get the new, already re-designed one?

All of this is speculation until Endgadget or Boy Genius gets one or RIM does an official announcement. Personally, I'll be surprised if the 9700 cant support the full version of OS 6.
