Verizon uses CDMA, which does not use a SIM.

Verizon doesn't use the sim card in the storm unless you are traveling overseas. I believe that the Blackberry 8830 World Edition also has a sim slot.

Yes so far only the Storm and 8830 World Edition have sim card slots. Only for traveling overseas. So it's the same deal as would be with ATT. You'd have to call CS and say you're traveling overseas so they can give you the unlock code.
