The purpose of the Telus SIM card in the Tour is for international roaming if you are in another country that does not have CDMA service, since most countries in Europe only have GSM.

If you got your device unlocked, you would be able to use a prepaid SIM card from a carrier in another country when you visit, rather than pay for international roaming charges.

Uh, I'm pretty sure Telus is now on the HSPA network and requires the SIM to be activated to utilize that network.

Is the Telus Tour a CDMA device? If so, lak611 is correct.

acturally i think they offer both CDMA and GSM as options for service.

Telus is CMDA and HSPA. It doesn't have GSM.

The Tour is a CDMA & GSM device. On Telus, it uses CDMA. No SIM card required.
