Why is a SIM card needed to update your applications even after logging in using your BB ID via Wi-fi? It seems that connecting your BB to your Desktop software doesn't help either. A message stating that a USB connection is not supported.

    Thanks for your comments.

App world won't work without your phone being connected to a carrier, IIRC it uses the carrier to know if it should push any carrier apps to you, if any (I think I read that somewhere). Crackberry recently reported that a version which will support Wi-Fi only is in development.

First of all a SIm card has nothing to do with updating anything and unless you are one that goes through all the trouble to placed your contacts one by one on your SIM card it is only good if your BB is unlocked and you use SIm cards to travel to others parts of the worod.

Having said that anybody with a BB and data plan are going to get pushed Apps or at least notifications through App World to let you know you have updates so you open up App World, sign in with your BBID ands update or as far as updating App World itself, you can always go to App World via the web and have the newest version sent to your device and update that way as well.
