The rationale for the name is solid.

The name itself is solid too. A solid.....

Names and namecalling aside, let's give the device a chance. It was gettign the right kind of hype. Let's not focus on this.

Another stupid name for a phone from BlackBerry. Right up there with the Leap (of faith) fail. Do they not undertake any consumer market studies at all anymore ?

I'm just going to call it a blackberry when I get it and anyone asks what it is, same as I have done with the passport, it's like 'oh what's that?' 'it's my blackberry'. Simples.

There's been lots of stupid phone nicknames. What matters is how it sells.

Unfortunately the two are not entirely mutually exclusive.

It all comes down to price! No one really cares about the name after they have owned the phone for a while. Most get used to it! The name could have been worse...I guess lol maybe not

Yes, its dumb. And imo their rational for the name is dumb. I don't think most people when they hear the name "Priv" are going to think "Oh, Privacy, and Privilege." If they wanted to convey that why not call it the Blackberry Secure, or Blackberry Shield, or Blackberry Armor, or something like that. Does the name really matter? Probably not, but it doesn't help the device to have a stupid name attached to it.

?? Did I intend to "stifle" people, or discourage them from expressing their legitimate dislike of the name? No. :-)

I don't really like the name either. But after Chen's demo, it's a done deal, and we - as team BlackBerry - need to make the best of it now.

It's probably a misunderstanding. All good, mate.

    :-D

(edit Admittedly, the name might grow on us, and it does have some virtue (as mentioned by Chen and others) if marketed and communicated properly, that's what I was trying to get across with "damage privention"...
