I heard a rumour that Sebastien Marineau (VP of software) was let go. Anyone know if this is true?

If it is true, there will surely be an announcement coming in near future.

Would be surprised if they did. He's clearly Dan Dodge's go to guy over at QNX. They might have moved him back into the QNX division rather than the device division.

Anybody there with VP in their job title before Chen's arrival, should be gone , imo.

He was actually one of the modernising influences brought in from qnx. Did some good work in dragging the monolith into the 21st century. Still no official confirmation of course.

Indeed, for what is worth, I now have it confirmed he is gone.

Yeah, but also the "whoops - we forgot to make it work on the 1 GB QNX devices we already have in market" snafu happened on his watch too.

Interesting and makes sense given Apple's in-car push.

I hope BlackBerry has this type of decisive victory in court with Typo as well.

Sounds like the court case will delay that til July. In my experience unusual for these resignation cases to go to court, generally considered a pointless exercise.

For a contract? No, I would say that it's common for labour lawyers to sue over this or at least settle.

Over aggression causing some good guys to resign, doesn't sound smart to me.

How is reducing a role "over-aggression"?
According to Marineau, that bundled with the new direction and current state of the company is why he wanted to leave. It's not like Chen sued him as soon as he was appointed as CEO.

He signed the contract thinking the company would be sold and gutted because this is what TH and Prem had planned and he would have gotten a fat severance package and went to Apple anyway since he was in talks with them. When that didn't happen he just decided to leave anyway. Apple should have just bought BlackBerry for nothing with the Scrooge McDuck cash pike they are sitting on, but I think that they decided they could get everything in Bankruptcy for cheaper.

My view is that it was more an issue of management style and a failure to persuade, rather than reducing a role per se. Also interesting they were doing hush hush promotions while a freeze was in place. Not good practice.
