When I had my (wonky) Tour before it was replaced by a Bold, I just left the factory protector on there....and carefully snipped off the extra tab on the bottom of it.
For my Bold, I went to my local Verizon franchise store. They treat me so well. Perhaps it's because I bring them news from CB well before they hear about things from Big Red's mother ship.
Anyways, at the time, they didn't have the custom sized generic Bold ones in store. So the very cute manager custom cut one for me and applied it. She did a great job.
The key for the clingy ones is using the cloth first, taking your time, etc.
Oh, and I have two in the on-deck circle from my Otter Commuter case(s).
