We often have a Saturday worker thread. I thought I'd ask if it was easy (or OK) for you to use your BlackBerry or work computer to visit CrackBerry while at work.

It's good to be the boss. I'm the boss, too. But we all have to watch what we do - at least with bigger organizations. We monitor internet usage, but the only real flags are the usual -- shopping, porn, music downloads.

It doesn't matter at my job as long as work gets done. But the funny thing is that I can play on my phone or the web but I can't use my cell for phone calls. But I can't complain I do got a phone on my desk. But I hardly ever use it

I can visit the crackberry site from my work pc or use my blackberry at work. I am a computer tech, though, so it just fits within the guidelines of acceptable sites since CB contains so much useful information.

Oh yea, the IT types get to go anywhere. If I need to download anything, I have to go ask them to do it for me. It pays to take care of those guys in the IT cave -- it's usually more expensive than tossing a bunch of bananas through the door. It does pay -- I got access from one of my buddies to a bunch of classic computer games and an emulator to play them on my desktop -- Mrs. Pacman! Yes! I do have to buy them a Starbucks once or twice a week, but it's worth it.

I work a rotating schedule of 2 nights 2 days then 2 off, so I rotate in and out of weekends. I have to work 16x0100 tonight and 0800x16 tomorrow. I am on the road a lot doing investigations, so the BB will get a workout tonight and tomorrow. I am on the train as we type. I don't have a supervisor over my shoulder. As long as cases get closed, all is good. Gearing up for a 20 day vacation!!!

Some bosses aren't too bright. Happy crackberry fed employees are loyal employees. The big boss at work caught me visiting CB During our management staff meeting. I spent about an hour after the meeting helping him download the CB wap icon, lol. He gets a sprint BB with unlimited everything! Me? I get a Motorola direct connect POS. Well, it does have a great camera, but I find I use my personal Curve more and more.

Howdy to all you hard working folks, somebody has to keep the Planet spinning.

The thread reminded me of a story. Back in the day, when the network needed fixing, I got the call.

Saturday morning shift, geeks sitting at computer consoles that rival the Huston Space center. Multiple networks feeding the console from SCADA through host connections and TCP/IP.

When Lotus 123 gets errors, it get the high severity treatment and my beeper goes beep.

Everything looked fine, 'till I spotted the addition to the network on several stations. The night shift geeks had installed multiplayer Doom in a hidden location. The changes they made, installing IPX, gave up the game.

Restoring the defaults cured the problem and a post-it note with a heads up to remind them to restore when they were done, got me a free pass at Starbucks.
