If the rumors that they're using a qnx kernel are true, it can't be rooted and can't have a custom rom

I'm not sure why you would want to do that. If you plan to install another OS, get a vanilla Android device like a Nexus.

The differentiating factor for the BlackBerry-branded Android device is its keyboard, and that would need OS support.

Android has native support for keyboards. The first Android device was a slider. Now, if you mean Passport like swiping, then that would probably need special software.

Which, in case of a custom rom, will add by taking the necessary files form the original rom
It would be interesting to see if this will be the first unrootable android device (what about that $3000 blackberry-samsung galaxy note?)

I'm sure BB will try extra hard to make the bootloader not unlockable. After all if they can't then what does that say about their security stance?
