Are those two android-BB devices for real or are they photoshopped?

Bacause the picture itself is just kinda vague and blurry in my honest opinion.

Second thought it would be a shame if it's not called the CURV with that curved screen PKB.

So another phablet. And the pkb handset is styled after the Passport SE...

Hardly Passport. It's fairly tall. More like a Priv with keyboard stuck open and top of screen chopped off.

Rome certainly looks like it's borrowed some design language from the PP SE - silver frame with squared off top edges. If it is indeed going to be the high end device I'm genuinely excited, although the potential price point worries me slightly!

Rome looks like something one of the members on here rendered. I think the post was called Passport 2 renders lol.

    Hamburg (Left), Rome (Right)

Have renders and actual (non-finalized) specs for both of these bad boys.

Hamburg is due out first FYI, Rome brings two new hardware features that haven't been on a BlackBerry before...

Producing phones for Android would be much less expensive than producing BB10 phones because all BlackBerry is doing is borrowing an already working OS that doesn't need any maintaining from their own engineers.
Not to mention that it also saves them from needing BB World, BB Maps, BB Twitter app, BB fb app (haha), etc.. Many of the "core" apps that go with BB10 will also come from Google or third parties. Lots of savings there.
BUT, the problem is - while they had the BB10 market all to themselves - Android is fiercely competitive. Those waters are filled with well financed, capable, and fast moving companies. Good luck in that space. IMHO, BB moves too slow, their name is mud, have poor carrier support, roll-outs are a badly staggered and take far too long.

Plus, they don't get benefit of savings from maintaining BB Maps (outside contract for sure) and BB World, etc.. until they can actually shut them down and be done with them. In the mean time, it's an added burden.

For all those reasons I believe they will fail

But if Chen says that he will make hardware profitable by sep 2016 or pull out, is he really going to plough lots of money into developing a device or 2 that might get canned by Q4? Or does he need to gage the reactions of 1 more device before making that call?

I hope they do bring out these 2 phones.

I have no idea why they are insisting on the curved edge... it really doesn't serve much purpose.
Ya... but it looks really cool.

It would be wise at the very list to release a full touchscreen android device, as that is your biggest market share. Remember the best selling BB10 device is z10, by numbers only and not profit. Priv and Rome are niche products in a mobile phone space where full touchscreen is the norm.

...provided it's a low-mid device that competes at the 199-299 range, against the Galaxy A-series and slot below the iPhone SE. Anything above is DOA, it's too crowded. But then there's not much margin in that kind of prices to hit the volume they want.

What would the ASP be on a $199 phone? Or even a $299 phone? That would put him back at needing 5 million (or more) phones a year...

I think, they need to copy BlackPhone. OK hardware at a premium.

That's pretty much what I said. All-touch phones are a dime a dozen these days.

If Blackberry releases a devices within the next 6 months, it will be very limited to the carriers, e.g. No Verizon, AT&T... However, if they do plan to release those devices on VZW and AT&T, then expect 2017 to be the launch year.

That's what you speculate? Or do you have info to substantiate that?

Maybe it's gimmicky but still It's something that differentiates Blackberry from others. Right now only Priv and Samsung S6(+) Edge and S7 Edge have curved displays.

A mid-range android device? So they're gonna downgrade the hardware even further. We'll end up with a 1 megapixel secondary camera, it will be like being back in 2004 lmao.
