Received a tips from friend today about the BBOS 10 dev phone. Rumor has it that the BBOS 10 dev phone is very closely resembled the Qualcomm dev phone.
    https://developer.qualcomm.com/devel...4-msm8960-mdps

It will have the same SOC, ram, screen (4.03", 1024x600), camera, and dimension. Most likely it is a RIMM respin of the same phone with minor design changes and to study the overall design, board & conn layout, thermal, manufacturability as prototype.

Will the OS be close to the final version in terms of UI?

Well, my friend is more involved in the platform and device design so I don't think he has too much inside knowledge on the eventual UI and overall OS stuff. And he is not working for RIMM.

It's just an error in posting the link. In the middle of the link there's a "...".

it appears that it is a phone made by snapdragon with specs that companys can buy to test there OS look like it is most commonly used for android devices. which makes sense for OEM's testing their custom build android OS's. Also would work in RIM's case with QNX booted on it. very interesting.....very interesting indeed. cant wait till the news from BBworld starts

    The link works.
RIM would leak this anyway as I can guarantee some developers WILL tear down these alpha devices as soon as they get them.
Those specs seem pretty high end to me. I thought RIM would issue a device that is closer to the would-be-low end BB10 devices. If RIM still insists on releasing dumbed down devices on a new OS.

Blackberry_boffin RIM doesn't purposely leak them. None of the 9900's are low end, they're fine and up to specs. They aren't dumbed down either.

I can see base qualcomm hardware used as alpha device but will not be even 10% close to real thingy..sure the screen size and ration willl be closer to end device but that is just display..

The aspect ratio is interesting though. It uses the same resolution as the playbook. Which isn't really conventional. Its like 15:9 instead of the usual 16:9 so many android phones. hmmmmm. 1024 X 600 in 4" gives it about 294 ppi.

The only problem I see, is there are no side bezels. Would make those gestures kind of hard to test...

im sorry those specs wont cut it anymore in Q4 2012. 4 inch and that resolution would be just okay if BB 10 launced right now. The first BB10 all touch needs to be between 4.3 to 4.5 inches. The resoul.tiion neess to be 1280x720.

Now the BB10 bold form factor should be between 3.3 to 3.5 inches. The 1024X600 resoultion will do here just fine.

The delay in BB10 to Q4 2012, needs to bring a much neeeded upgrade in hardware specs. RIMM needs to close the hardware spec gap at that time for good. Hardware specs and design do move product. It needs to be a very big satement. T

These specs aren't bad. Also, realize this is a dev phone. My bet is that the final product will differ quite a bit. They don't want to reveal the final hardware design now, especially since they are giving these dev phones away for free, and that can't be cheap.

Os 7.1 devices will become the lowend device is my guess.

I think what he was getting at is that the phones for those regions would be running BB7. We won't see low-end BB10 devices for a little while.

2 years from now, can't see OS7.1 competing with low end Android Cotton Candy operating systems.

I interpreted it as the BB10 phones will only be going after the high end market. Your opinion makes more sense.

Hopefully the screen resolution gets bumped up on the real model. I want at least 720p screen please. My Galaxy Nexus screen is gorgeous and there is no going back to a lower resolution.

    And $999 for that? LOL.
