January 30th – now only 28 days away – will be a resurrection for Research In Motion. To ensure there’s no missteps, RIM seems to be settling all the necessary patent agreements with their respected partners. The Waterloo-based company recently signed a long-term patent agreement with Nokia, and today they’ve extended an existing patent license with InterDigital. The agreement covers “4G products, including LTE and LTE-Advanced products” and is a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-bearing patent license. There’s no word on the monetary terms of the deal.

Currently RIM has one LTE device, that being the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook. When RIM introduces their new 2013 smartphone lineup we’ll see a few more surface. RIM has openly stated that the new all-touch BlackBerry 10 device will have LTE enabled and it’s also expected that the QWERTY/Touch will have LTE connectivity, too.
