Facebook: Opera acquisition rumor suggests Facebook eying Web browsing

yes, Facebook is coming with their own rebranded browser. Now that is in the works, something I though a few weeks ago would be for RIM to release their Torch mobile based browser for PC/Mac. THey have high html scores, could be lightweight, prepacked with Flash alone.

Face it. BB maps is no longer on playbooks. BB messenger is not going anywhere either. However, BBs have google, Bing maps, iTunes integration.

When will rim make offensive moves?

PC and Mac browser market is already saturated. The only way any new entrant could make inroads is to somehow manage to take from the established players. With IE, Safari, Chrome and Firefox pretty well entrenched, it would be difficult for anybody to make any waves, let alone RIM that already has enough irons in the mobile fire.

Marketing 201: beware of markets with high barriers of entry.

I think RIM needs to make a modern, popular smartphone. That's all they should be dealing with right now.

Essentially this has already been done.

The PB already has app browsers which you can specify the 'agent': safari, firefox, windows, BBphone, QNX.

Why? There are some websites that do not recognize one browser or another based upon the specified agent. As far as operation of the browser, the limitations are screen size and system power. Most of the current browsers for full size computers already copied and included most of the essential useful functions. It is more a question of a button here and an option there.
