RIM should encourage its in-house developers to moonlight as app developers. They know better than anyone else what the product could do but for some reason doesn't either because of myopic management or cost constraints.

Don't they already do that with gtalk twitter and other RIM made apps. Perhaps they need to start doing it for PB. Blaq is not equal to the Blackberry twitter app.

So Rim should pay their in-house developers a salary to do the development of the BB platforms and apps. And then encourage the developers to keep their really good ideas to themselves and develop apps on there own and sell them in App World. Sounds counter productive.

In most cases, any developer who is actively employed, and develops apps whether in an official capacity or outside of the work environment, forfeits ownership of that work to the employer.

The developers are already working full time and to ask them to take more time to work on work related projects?! No! They deserve a life like everyone else!

Maybe what you're really asking for is something similar to Google's 20% time. An employee gets the equivalent of a day a week to work on special projects of his/her own choosing.
