Any idea why only some people were affected? Was it just people from a certain carrier?
How would this happen? Does RIM handle different carriers' customers differently on their servers?

Also, was there a work-around? Someone said you could use wi-fi temporarily instead. If this is the case, RIM should let people know this in case this happens again.

Should RIM give people a heads up when they are about to do server upgrades so these people can be prepared if something goes wrong or would that cause too much anxiety?

Please add that some services were down Saturday evening in the US (around 5-8 PM Eastern Time). Same type of deal (not all carriers; not everyone) but no e-mail, BBM, etc. This time there was no explanation or apology from Mr. Heins.

Nope, no work around. Even via wifi it goes through the NOCs.
