You've been wrong before, and you are wrong again. The ad is a success. Here's why. As someone in another topic already pointed out, most television commercials for iconic brand products (like BlackBerry) aren't put out to draw in new customers. They're designed to emphasize brand recognition in the minds of already existing customers.
That is true for iconic brands, but you're using the term too loosely. Coca-Cola, Nike, McDonald's, Walmart, and GE are iconic brands. BlackBerry is not. It's big and popular, but it is not an iconic brand. You cannot apply the same marketing strategy of one of these iconic brands to BlackBerry.

The correct term is Super Brand. Super Brands stand the test of time. BlackBerry was never a Super Brand.

However, BlackBerry is #76 of the top 200 of Lovemarks.

For a company supposedly re-committing itself to advertising, using recycled commercials is kind of sad. Why spend all the money on advertising time and not spring for new content? Seems like a bad move for a company plagued by criticisms of being stagnant.

Nothing wrong with the ads. Nothing negative except your thoughts.

Think positive thoughts. My experience with RIM products is good.

hmm...it seems like RIM is using the same strategy as their phones - only now it's re-hash the old commercials instead of the phones - LOL
    Rickroller likes this.

You are doing well deriving one positive from the comparison.

Based on the above, we could easily say they have a 50/50 chance to pull it off.
