Sweet news. App availability has to be there for RIM to succeed and this will help in spades.
I like this part :
"We are pleased to inform you that we have established strategic cooperation with Research In Motion™, to support their new BlackBerry 10 platform and open a new market for our Soc.io developer community within Blackberry App World™."
omg i can't handle all the good news lately, it feels like there are 20 new positive articles and news each day, ahhh
so excited, can't wait to get my hands on a BB10 device
i know more options are better, but not sure this is really gaining anything. I had never heard of this place and after browsing thru the store i know why now. Some might be OK but this is mostly the 4-5th rate apps/games
This is sick news!
Exciting stuff
I haven't looked yet. They say it's "one of the top android app stores" haha
they have mostly books and maybe 10k apps/games. I am curious how they are going to integrate with bb10 since no outside store was going to be allowed for the new OS. We will see
When I say this, I don't say it with fanboy enthusiasm but a more level headed analysis. I don't think RIM will go down. If we look at the mobile technology there is a LOT of room for improvement, how Apple and Android get away with some of things and sit around with hardly any meaningful innovation is confusing. RIM is back if nothing but for more competition which just the carrier support will be enough to get back up.
My guess is this will be like Handster, except instead of just porting for them automatically, it'll encourage the app makers to do it and get rewards for doing so.
No more android crap please. This won't help rim in the long run. If they want to be a real 3rd ecosystem close the app gap with real native apps.
This is a bandaid solution.
Some people like to downplay anything positive, its mindshare people! First comes the mindshare second comes the marketshare!
Keep the ball rolling RIM!!
BB10 believe it!!
Reminds me of Handster and their involvement in PlayBook apps.
I'm re-releasing my app for Blackberry 10 because when I tried downloading it onto the simulator, it defaulted to landscape and didn't scale well. My fault, of course. I'm going to remove a feature that the Android Runtime doesn't support, as well. :(.
The good news is that I wrote a native app using C++/QML for the first time! Whew! Releasing tomorrow for BB10.
Anywho, what you said is good news, and I'm never programming Android again. Native Cascades FOR THE WIN!
yea was wondering the same thing.........
What does one have to do to obtain an education to be able to write an app for PB or BB10?
Not to be condescending, but 1) smart enough to think logically and be able to program, 2) program in any object-oriented language, 3) learn the basics of C++, 4) start slow w/ QML, 5) look at their examples and take bits and pieces to make it work.
Lots of trial and error. http://developer.blackberry.com
