3 of the 3 BB's running BBM5 here are incapable of reading your posted v/code barcode ... they sit there trying to focus.

It would be interesting to see how many around here can actually read it.
BBM5 can't read the barcode because BBM5 doesn't support vCard barcodes.... It expects a QR Code to begin with the string "bbm:" like such:

    Code:
    bbm:0000000011111111Nickname

(00000000 is a person's Pin, 11111111 is unknown at this time, Nickname is a person's nickname)

That being said, BlackBerries do not have the possibility to decode vCard QR Codes yet. And while vCard barcodes can be quite huge, a simple gziped version of the data would require less real-estate... We would just need a major manufacturer to push it. Here would be the result (same example as my previous post, but gzipped-base64)

    Code:
    eNqdktFOwjAUhu+b9B16qQku7dYl2sbEDQoujo6UOaLhpsDAJawjY0R8ewtMJRov9Ko9p//58iWnoRhEkmXdQPUgyIQaR4lknoMhkGywKze8X9V1vm0g6EvW3tHhAYJEDVi4m830sUbjl7qwR7dyIEijNBas7Qy1sR0R8/RpJG4niXroZEnUFeyCEHKJfN+/Ii5xzzL3yVB8ZCim55mgp744jHOCMZroJq+3SCxWOQ/1W1O9Gh4H3MMeofzRFE2+QOPGhraoWqKgzOtiriGIg/Bcin1DTU3L6qA4QEfY1PxO+xQ7yFsx6qLRWhsbLCpjB5x/qh1xP2B/lBPDIGp5IyX6nUimQkmRsuVpoyu7wLt8r8vNOnfmVQmBEhlzMb7G1KUpufFd6j1bjuyd/so7O3upSw==
    (See above for uncompressed version)

Another standard out there based on vCard is simply a url to a vCard file (.vcf). That way the barcode remains always valid, requires less data density, and is always up to date. Here is an example:

    Code:
    http://www.andrew-parker.com/Browndog%20Design%20Ltd.vcf

EDIT: BlackBerries already support adding vcf files to contacts Interestingly enough. Get BeeTagg (OTA) or UpCode (OTA), scan the above, and try it out!

Wow! FineWolf! That is incredible what you can do with the bar codes. I think the RIM should really push the bar code to its fullest potential.

Don't look now, FineWolf, but BBM5 handles that nicely _without_ beetag or upcode ...

Thos are nice ideas, however, DUBmenow defeats these ideas.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com
Or SMS vCard Addon... (available in App Store)

Not all my "buddies" have a BB...

Nope. That's just the first vCard I've found.
