RIM: Jefferies, Sterne Agee Cut Targets; New Phones Not Enough
-
I really have trouble with these analysts sometimes....
From the articles:
"...but Misek isn’t convinced that the handsets will get enough of a push. 'Preliminary reviews of the handsets cite improved speed but a browsing experience still inferior to Android and iOS.'"
I thought based on the latest runs the new browsers were beating out iOS and even some Android phones, so where is this analyst pulling his information from?

They said the same thing about the browser in OS6.

I bet that none of these analysts has even used the devices. Those independent HTML5 test showed OS7 beating Android and IOS4. The live videos show a very fast and fluid experience. They may be right about the carriers not giving them a big push though. I guess the carriers would rather push iPhones that they have put out a higher subsidy for and sell themselves.

I love that the phone is purely based on it's browser
that is the true measure of a phone...

agreed i am sure none have actually used the devices. There is no denying they are the best BBs RIM has ever released. Sure its not going to get people to break contract from iOS or android probably but still as long as they are relativly bug free they will please most all BB users

Well we all know Wu feels that Apple can do no wrong and RIM can do no right, so clearly he would never have touched the New RIM devices.
Very few devices are "hot" enough for the mass consumer base to break contracts for, these devices will be sold to people who purchased devices in 2008/2009 primarily and they are significant upgrades to those devices, Even comparing a early 2009 Android phone to these devices they are a great upgrade.

We all know these OS7 devices are not going to be game changers, and I don't think in RIM's mind they're going to be considered their Android/iOS fighters. They'll be for the most part like previous devices but finally with hardware specs close to the competition and with the current java based OS pushed as far as it'll go. Enough to keep the diehards quiet for 6 months. The real game changer (we hope) is going to be 2012 and the QNX phone.
But I can see it now, when all the tech blogs "review" the OS7 units, it'll be RIMaggedon all over again.
