- Great revival stories dont appear quite often. It takes particular elements but most a much disciplined orientation to get it (remember a certain Apple). RIM has to realize that they have this unique opportunity to have a revival story. They also have to realize that North American people love revival story.
Is RIM able to do it? With the new CEO Thorsten Heins I saw at Blackberry World, I would definitively say yes. Trough him and his team, RIM has now focused on a great innovative OS and on the capital matter of developers. I really liked there humble attitude about their past failures and commitment to rebuild.
But then, if all was so successful as we saw at Blackberry World, why is the press not fully enthusiasm and why is the stock reaction so bad? The best way to answer this very important question is to use the KISS principle (keep it simple and stupid): People hate anonymous devices like the alpha Blackberry. Are you passionate when the scientific community show a basic prototype of a new revolutionary screen that does not sit on a very nice device? No. Thats what happened with the alpha device. Average consumers and the shareholders (the two most important categories for a company) saw first an anonymous device and a lot conclude that it is the RIM way to be innovative. You and I are not average consumer, we are passionate, we watch CEO and developer videos, we read forums and know for sure that the alpha Blackberry was just a tool. We can feel that RIM will design unique an innovating smartphones.
From now RIM as to be I think as innovating in marketing as they were with their OS. First they have to demonstrate through a massive campaign that they are NOW a very innovative on both aspects (OS and design). For example they can say to the public something like: See the enjoyable and convenient possibilities of the working tool (alpha) device... Now imagine the level of design we will achieve, stay tune for more. Instead they made a corporate video and I think it was this one that the average consumers or the shareholders saw. And they both said: what a poor device. They did not dig into the tech stuff because human nature is like that when passion is not on the first matter. There first matter is design and RIM has to come with answers quickly. Im very confident that they will and that Mr Heins is already briefing his new Chief of marketing. I just hope it wont take too long because there is a momentum for a great revival of Blackberry.ubizmo likes this.05-05-12 07:34 AMLike 1 - I don't think the dev alpha mini playbook phone is an anonymous device...I like it a lot
They didn't show enough at BBW because they couldn't. The competition is watching.
But I think they showed enough to prove BB10 will be awesome. They've assembled a lot of talent
RIM is fighting it's way back to being cool again...people appreciate and respect that05-05-12 09:06 PMLike 0
