is it possible to reset failed password count?
this is becoming very irriating as it wipes the phone after 6 tries!
Options > password
You can set the counter as high as 10 attempts, but if you are
entering the password wrong all the attempts in the world will
not prevent the phone from wiping.
i know i can set ther counter. problem is BB remembers failed attempts and soon it will reach 10 attempts and wipe my device again!!
That, there is no way to get around.
The attempts aren't cumulative, they are consecutive.
Actually, someone posted a method of editing the BACKUP file. A specific string which contains the count can be edited to a larger than 10 number. Edit the backup on computer and then restore it to BB. The position in the backup file is not static and moves as you use the phone so you need to search for the location by comparing two backup files. But once edited it will be retained.
And sorry, I don't recall the thread and if it was on Crackberry or other forum.
it will be good if some can post it here
Another solution would be to enter the correct password every now and then. How many tries does it take to get it right??
My password is set to wipe if the password is entered 10 times in a row wrong .I did enter it wrong 1 time but most times I enter it right on the first attempt. :)neanea: i know i can set ther counter. problem is BB remembers failed attempts and soon it will reach 10 attempts and wipe my device again!!
problem is BB accumulates the no. of wrong tries. soon you will accumulate 10 wrong attempts and it will wipe it again!!
There are a couple of simple way of restoring the bad try count to zero, as long as you have the correct password in the first place.
Options / Security Options / General Settings.
Set Password to disable, then back to Enable with a fresh password.
Options / General Settings. Menu / Wipe Handheld.
That will erase all settings and data, be sure you have a backup before you proceed.
You do know the password, right?
Ok, am I missing something here?? Since when is the incorrect password count cumulative?? If you enter the correct password, the count gets reset. At least that's how it's worked on every BB I've ever owned. So, no, the BB DOESN'T "accumulate" incorrect entries unless they are entered consecutively without entering the CORRECT password.
So, if you know the correct password (which it doesn't sound like you do), then all you need to do is enter it and the count will reset to zero.
It is not cumulative!
Why does everyone think it is anyways? I have guessed my password wrong a lot more than 10 times and it never wipes.
Being cumulative would be a truly horrible design flaw in fact. Perhaps this is just for some kind of beta firmware? Or am I missing something here?
Why cant you just remember the password?
what is the use of a password if you cant remember it?
LoL thats true , and back on topic the count doesn't keep adding up when you enter wrong password (although I have just enter my wrong once) .So since I entered my in correct since that 1 time I entered it in wrong I have 10 tries again .
Could it be you change it to 10 but a policy from the IT department changes it back to a lower number?
