RRRRoll up the RRRRim (to Canadian coffee lovers), and dump BlackBerry name as well.
Both are too tarnished. Besides, enough of fruit names.
John Chen did not sound too crazy about the BlackBerry name either.
He might change it later on after the turnaround (if it ever happens...).

You could call it peach, or advocado, or whatever. The big thing is that there actually needs to be EFFECTIVE marketing. BB10 is a reasonable operating system, with great potential.... that few people know about. (regardless of the name)
This is so true, RIM/BlackBerry have so much to offer to the consumer and enterprise but few people do the research to find out.

It seems the BlackBerry users are giving them loads of stick over poor marketing, and rightfully so!

This is why I personally like BlackBerry over the name RIM. Still, many people like this have no clue about Research In Motion.

P.s. No offense to the OP of the below post. Just showing how the name change may have been a better idea than leaving it at RIM.

In the end it doesn't really matter what they call it. If they don't do some type marketing they might as well call it "your last phone option unless you are a member of Crackberry."

What does the name matter if they don't do something with it?

    In my opinion: both.

RIM seems to be a wider one, specially if cellphones aren't the only one business.
BlackBerry seems to be only a product's name.

If you mind it's the same for Apple and iPhone.

above the RIM...that name was so cool....BB didnt need to a change in name just a change in thinking and innovation to reflect the ever changing world we live in....Research in Motion epitomized that for me...always changing..at least it would have been better than that 'keep moving' thing they have going
The last time I saw a RIM on-stage logo

    "No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

.... it looked so dated, I thought, how did they teleport that out of the 90's?

The fresh blue background with Thor looked so much nicer and modern.

Thinking of RIM, I can't get rid of the feeling that it evokes connotations of a sexual practice (common among homosexuals, as far as I am aware). Am I the only one?

BlackBerry. Even when the company was RIM, everyone referred to their phone as a BlackBerry. The name is a simple one word and I believe if Chen can bring back the company to profit, then the name will endure. Changing the name again is neither a priority nor needed for it to be profitable. Focus on the money items.

Well, to me, the new marketing campaign sounds better with "Powered by BlackBerry " than "Powered by RIM" .
I realize the BlackBerry name is tarnished, but who are we kidding, RIM would get the same treatment.
Like other companies that almost died off, as long as it improves drastically, the perception of the name does as well.

Well, at least when you look at "HTC" you have to really wonder what it means. When you look at RIM, many would insert their own meaning right away. Not a nice meaning to many I'm guessing?
In the eighties Apple had a tarnished reputation. Now look at them. This can be done. It's going to take a small miracle, but yes, it can be done.

Just keep it as BlackBerry, cause if people find out they changed the name again, I'm afraid people will think that the company is flip floping.
