BlackBerry
- That's the point. People buy what's new and different. BlackBerry 10 is different but the name BlackBerry is tarnished beyond repair. Don't rename the company, rename the device. The QNX Z50 would sell more than the BlackBerry Z50.
Marketing efforts would be more successful also because consumers wouldn't hear the name "BlackBerry " anymore even though the Company "BlackBerry " produced the device. They would hear something that's already proven to be successful to some (industry folks familiar with QNX) , and be introduced to something new and different to others.

"QNX Z50 with BlackBerry Guardian Security",
So brand it as a QNX phone (not a BlackBerry phone), but advertise it as having the patented 'BlackBerry security'.

Chen is looking for a way to get the Blackberry name out of people's minds because their brand image is shot. It has nothing to with liking one name over the other.
That's exactly it, but granted they were really going all in with the devices last year, but the biggest issue is that all these changes are coming way too late.
RIM/BlackBerry for me feels like a government filled with old people who just want to leave things the way they are.
I do prefer the name BlackBerry but it's too late, RIM was known as the powerful enterprise focused business, BlackBerry were the devices that went with the service, but BlackBerry got a bad name, and then they killed RIM!? There was no need to do that, loads of companies will have different departments that trade under different names, they could have left that alone while they should have been focusing on their customers and their image, all those things that actually bring them money!?
I'm so glad that Chen is there now though, and he's moving fast to resolve issues and increase options and variety while still keeping things simple.

QNX is only known to a tiny number of geeks who either know it's embedded OS credentials or its purchase by BlackBerry. I happen to have known of QNX for 15 years, but I'm a Software Engineering graduate and have worked in the IT industry for the 16 years so I am not the average consumer or even the average guy who works in IT.
With the right marketing BlackBerry could re-brand themselves with a new name and succeed if they manage to reinvent themselves to be "cool" enough, but marketing is one of the things BlackBerry historically is atrocious at. BlackBerry don't even have the money to market the products they have now effectively to consumers so how on Earth could they afford to bring a whole new name to market and get it known? Even if they could afford it QNX is not that new name anyway. It's not a 'cool' looking or sounding name or a known brand with any value in the minds of enough people.
It would be better for BlackBerry to buy a known brand name from the past if it were to rebrand. How about the Atari Z50 or Sega, or Commodore or Amiga? All tech brands from the past but the point is they are still more well known today, without any effort, than QNX.

Good thing Ford didn't change their name to Escort, or Dodge to Dart, and you won't see Dyson change to DC39 or Apple to iPhone.

Ford Fiesta
Blackberry Z10
I've never heard anyone say
Rim 9900
Imho Research in motion more of a slogan than a name
I don't think many of the average individuals ever new about RIM, a lot of people don't even know they changed their name officially "weren't they always BlackBerry? "

I also don't announce the car manufacturer before saying the model name. I guess that's personal choice.
However, now the company's name is changed to a horribly, publicly viewed product name. The company doesn't have it's own identity. Talk to someone about QNX, they may say, 'but isnt that BlackBerry' and form a quick opinion. RIM wasn't as mainstream, which really could have helped out in their current marketing situation. What's the first thing you hear when you say BlackBerry to a non BB fan. They immediately write it off etc. that's old, are they still in business etc. This makes more of an uphill battle for BBRY since the company switched to the product name. Just an all around Bad Move!03-08-14 02:08 PMLike 0 -
Posted via CB1003-08-14 02:16 PMLike 0 - That's what they should do in my opinion. They need a new device name.....one that's going to make people look at it and realize the capabilities. something other than a "BlackBerry ____. A BlackBerry ___ is not even getting picked up by carriers.
Change all future device names to QNX. Offer incentives to carriers for the # of devices sold. Help the carriers make money so that they help you.
Please, use the name QNX. That name has no Tarnish.
Posted via CB1003-08-14 02:23 PMLike 0 - Definitely Research in Motion.
I loved seeing that Chen also has some sense and feels the same way http://www.berryreview.com/2014/03/0...-a-lot-better/
Posted via CB1003-08-14 02:23 PMLike 0 - Of course they wont say RIM 9900, because the product is a BlackBerry. BlackBerry should be a division of RIM.

Take Samsung, they are involved in a lot of industries not just devices and their phones;
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Note 3
Granted a lot of people don't say Samsung but that's how it is officially,
Yes blackberry isn't just devices but the only thing that doesn't have blackberry in front of it (even though it now has the logo) is QNX, Enterprise use 'Blackberry' devices, 'Blackberry' Messenger, there's no RIM anywhere, yet for other companies their company name is used for their devices too.. and not saying just because BlackBerry should be like everyone else but it makes sense to me.. like I said RIM sounds more like a logo.. a really nice logo,
They shouldn't completely forget about the phrase 'Research in Motion' because it sounds powerful to me, but imo Blackberry makes for a better name...
TechCraze C0008DDD103-08-14 02:53 PMLike 0 - Off the 2 choice given, I would keep the name Research In Motion.
Here's why, the BlackBerry name is for the device, people view the BlackBerry phone as old or as a work phone but, there's definitely a place for the BlackBerry. Someone who wants the keyboard phone will get a BlackBerry. You can ask 10 - 20 random people what do you use a BlackBerry phone for? 99% will say: Eww its a work phone. BBRY = Work
Who really knows the name Research in Motion? On this site yes we all do, the general public, some do some don't, I don't think RIM is has tarnished as BlackBerry. Although the BlackBerry name is tarnish with the general public, it would be easier for "RIM" to gain traction as RIM. Keep RIM as your company name, keep the BlackBerry name for your work device, that everyone already, A BLACKBERRY is the keyboard phone and its for work.
"RIM" keeps the BlackBerry, still used by your "niche" working class customer.
RIM can introduce a new brand of device, named "Insert here" without having to involve the BlackBerry brand whatsoever, something fresh. As far as I know QNX is a division of RIM or "BlackBerry" and its doing very well for itself, it would be a mistake to use its name to brand a new smartphone.
Someone said something about Dodge, well the Dodge brand is made by Chrysler Group and owned by Fiat. They also manufacture Jeep, Ram, SRT, and own mopar car parts.03-08-14 03:16 PMLike 0 -

You have to solve the problem you have, renaming isn't going to solve the problem for you.
