    I'm tired of it not staying off too. I tried going to settings > accessibility > closed captions & turning off the master switch on my phone but that didn't work.

    I've been randomly seeing it over the last 2 months & because it's random, it may be an error that YT is working on to be fixed soon.

    Another thing I don't like about YT is the auto-play if all you want to do is read the video's description or comments without watching the video. It becomes even more annoying when exploring ahead or having to backtrack through multiple videos.

    I always thought auto-play was up to the individual publisher's to activate it providing the enduser the option to turn it off in the playback controls which does exist. But is there any way to turn off YT's default auto-play?

    I can't ever recall seeing it on the left side but it may be player-specific on different phones or are you talking about an embedded player on a webpage?

    This is a bug in 10.3.x IIRC. I think it happens (or is more likely to happen) if you have multiple apps open that use the HTML5 player. Restarting your phone should fix the issue.

    Restarting does not fix the issue. Do you have to adjust your settings with whatever account you sign in with?

    In my case, that's still annoying. I swap batteries and I think that longs you out of your youtube account.

    Rather old thread, but I noticed in your YouTube account settings under playback there is a CC option, mine was ticked for some reason and always showed the Captions by default
