Are you too? :p
Unfortunately not :(. If it didn't have a keyboard I'd take a bigger look at it. We'll see what comes down the line...
I have seen several sites where there is some positive anticipation about what BlackBerry is dong. But there is a difference in wanting to watch someone dive off a 10 store building into a 12" swimming pool and wanting to do it yourself.
I think a lot of people are watching and will give BlackBerry a "look", it's up to BlackBerry to deliver a product that is.... PERFECT for those people.
Variety is the spice of life.
I could have waited for this device if we had indication of release dates
I love the slider form factor
As it is i'm enjoying my LG G4 but i will be paying attention to how this device is received, how it runs, and if Blackberry can keep on top of updates.
If they can make a decent device and update it in a timely manner, i may get their next android one.
Needs a good camera too :P
I think that if blackberry made a full touch blackberry/android phone it would be a hit ..............I myself love a keyboard and love bb10
As I have said in many of my post, I am all in and have my cash waiting as soon as they announce the release date for the new Android based slider, I have been a loyal Blackberry user since the early days and the only reason I am using an IOS device at the moment is because my client base has driven me to do so because they have all abandoned the Blackberry platform and use custom apps not supported by OS10 and/or require Google play services to run.
With the slider running a Android OS, I will now be able to run the apps my clients require me to because the slider will support Google play service and the playstore. Sorry folks, but the rest of the world has changed and you either roll with it or get rolled over, thats just the way it is in todays market.
If everyone around becomes a Google zombie, I have to become one too? Nah...

Just stick Google Play services on my Passport and I'd need nothing else.

Conform or die? Nah... It's not that serious. I've used my 9900 for almost 4years without a software update. I've used my 9780 for 5 years without an update. I still use an 8320, 8100 and 7105t as my travel devices, some of those are nearly a decade without an update... My Classics will last me at least a decade if needed... In reality, all I personally require in my mobile device is the ability to make calls, message/email/sms and a functioning browser... The rest is simply filler... Can't miss what you don't need... Definitely NOT getting 'rolled over'...
This aside, I'd consider the Android BlackBerry as a secondary device on my alternate line IF it launches in another form factor... Slider form factor is just not at all flattering nor appealing in anyway... I didn't go for it when it was ALL BlackBerry in the Torch series, definitely not dipping into it in Android either...

I really don't get this. Like, it's Google Android or nothing? There is only one way forward in terms of technology and mobile OSs? We should all buy into the same OS because... reasons? Because everyone else is? What an incredibly limited viewpoint. Google has not been around forever and it will not be around forever. THAT'S just the way it is.

Think of it this way. BB10 will be going away. All the security conscious enterprise users are leaving for Android/IOS platforms anyway. Securing android platforms @ $5/month for every BYOD user is far better revenue and far more profitable than slinging Passports and Leaps that hardly anyone wants. The Venice is merely aimed to users that want a better solution than what currently exists in the Android space now. Suburbans and Expedition suvs are not as secure as the military apcs used in combat zones but you don't see people worried about less security. In fact, bunches of people buy little hybrids and such who don't care if they die in accident with my SUV. If that's what people want to buy and it's profitable, sell it to customers. Quit hoping to convince them you know better. Gas is 1.95/gallon, about time for a new suburban or expedition. BlackBerry is going to follow the money.

No, not quite. There's also Apple iOS. So, there is a choice... of those two.
I don't like it either, but I'm willing to wait and see how the whole android system is handled in the Venice. I don't want to ever use Apple - I just flat don't like how they do things. Windows phone is really in no better shape than BlackBerry right now (but that could change, so I keep an eye on its development). All app development is purely iOS or Android, including all business app development, so that sort of does force your hand to a degree.
I'm in architecture, and for some time, Apple was pretty much it. My own office switched from BlackBerry to iPhone back in '08 - even dropping BES on the email server like a hot potato once iOS started supporting EAS. Today, in an office with almost 30 employees total, half are on Android. We have 4 partners, and one has actually been on Android since the great iPhone takeover.
I'm the only one in the office who stayed with BlackBerry - and still have one to this day - my Z10.

There's a lot of positive talk on android based forums/websites but negative comments here...ironic? I get why some hardcore BB users are upset.
The thing we all have to understand is that Blackberry is a company. If you were the CEO of a company you'll do what it takes to survive, correct? If venturing in the android market is a form of survival then so be it! But remember one thing! No matter where you go in life you never forget where you came from...BB10 isn't going to die. Let's just relax and enjoy the positive comments towards BB right now. We all know how long it's been since we had that.

Sorry, but it seems you read something I didn't exactly post. We don't know that BB10 is going away, and I wasn't implying that it is what everyone should be turning to. I also didn't mention anything about anyone (myself included) knowing better than anyone else. And obviously BlackBerry is going to follow the money, hence their renewed focus on software and enterprise. I mean, that really couldn't be any more obvious. As for APCs, people don't worry about less security in their SUVs or hybrids because they don't live in a war zone (so that's not a very good analogy here). They buy what they buy because of the needs they feel such a vehicle fulfills, whether that need is fuel efficiency and decreasing their carbon footprint or increased cargo space. Everything you're saying is just elementary business; it's nothing new. Though, as far as smartphones, I will say that people are not as concerned about security as they should be.
