I received an email from snap chat saying that if I don't stop using a third party app to access snap chat that I will be locked out of my snap chat account

That seems like a good way to lose some (although very small portion) of your user base, Snapchat is a fad, and many people signed up and used it for a short period of time and then neglect to close their account and uninstall. I understand wanting users off of third party apps, but this would lead me to just uninstall both, it's not exactly an essential app/service.

So you violate their ToS, and then demand something? That's funny.

As crappy as it is, it's within their rights to block you.

So, show them who's boss! Insult them for your failure to comply with the rules of their free service and protecting their intellectual property, specially when they just made a poll for which platform should get SnapChat next. That'll teach them what an educated bunch we are.

Twitter has intentionally developed a public API for 3rd party developers to use in their apps. Snapchat has not. That's the difference. And it's a big difference.

SnapChat doesn't have a public API.

    Exactly.

I hope folks don't look at some of these responses and think this is how the majority of us think.

I'm not up for feeling sorry for Snapchat today. I use it on my nexus because the kids use it. But its basically stupid and they are lame for going after the third party apps.

It sucks, and I'd be dismayed, but bottom line is that I'd be infinitely more dismayed if someone appropriated my intellectual property. That's what it boils down to.

Just as I respect BlackBerry's need to go after Typo, I have to respect this decision.

When 3rd party Snapchat apps can be built to steal snaps and leak them online, it's a reasonable measure for Snapchat to block 3rd party apps. Nothing lame about it. Snapchat has to ensure that apps accessing their service perform within the security and privacy expectations from their service. They can't reasonably do that if they allow 3rd party apps.

To be fair in a way I'm glad they're doing this. Yes, I use snapchat and I'm not blocked (yet), but 3rd party apps and the option to save pics are destroying their name.
