1. It's a phone and a messaging device.

2. Nothing more than being an iphone 4/ Evo/ Samsung epic user..
you don't get any special privilege like parking or a special lane on a free way for owning a particular brand.. again it's just a phone.

1) It's an all-in-one get things done device, no need to carry a phone, calculator, notepad, contact book and calendar plus laptop for email/messaging/browsing. BlackBerry does it all on one device.

2) It's just a phone, nobody really cares or treats anybody different.

I don't quite get what you mean by "essence of being a BlackBerry user" but to me it signifies function over form, as well as a lack of concern for "the cool thing."
I like those, but in all reality, I got a blackberry cuz it's neither a slider nor a flip phone, and it has a keyboard.
