Is it possible to purchase a blackberry storm with no service or contract and switch it to Alltell service. I'm under the understanding that the storm will not be available to Alltell users post merger.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible! Both are CDMA companies!

Yes, you would have to get Alltel to add it to their ESN database in order to activate it on their network. I don't know how receptive they would be to this, but I know Sprint and Verizon won't do it.

Very true but what's the worst they can say, no. I would say ask first before you fork over the cash for the device

Go over to the HowardForums and search. A few people have gotten this to work, but you have to work at it. They (Alltel or Verizon) won't do it for you.

Yes they did, but the merger isn't complete. They are still two companies as far as their customers are concerned

    Exactly.

And even once it's complete, you will not be able to activate a Verizon device on an Alltel plan. You will need to switch to a Verzion plan.

But for instance when nextel was bought by sprint they gave the option of "extend" your current contract and move to sprint. If you had a year left you could sign up an additional 2 years and get a sprint phone. Maybe the vzw/alltel merger will be the same. Its an easy for them to move all the alltel ppl to vzw.
