If the 800 is "right at the end of its life", why is the 802 and 805 based on it?
Uh what?...I'm talking about the series. That's last year's processor. They are coming out with new ones (such as the 805). When the successor comes out, the predecessor is at the end of its life as a high end processor.

800 would be fine and the 805 a bonus.

If any phone maker were to launch a phone with the 805 it would have been samsung with its flagship galaxy s series.

Though the S5 was initially rumoured to include the 805, the latest news seem to point that it'll be totting the 800 instead complimented by a new 16mp camera sensor which will be the main upgrade and focus of the new model.

My point is if samsung doesnt see the need to launch a 2014 flagship phone with the 805 I highly doubt that BlackBerry will do differently.

Also BB10.3 with the SD800 and 3gb of ram would surely perform mightily well.

That is kind of surprising that Samsung is going that direction if it turns out to be true, but the difference is: the GSV will be out early this year while BlackBerry's device will probably be out late this year. That would mean they would be releasing another device on a very old chipset. Samsung can probably squeak by (through I'm sure they will definitely get some heat), but BlackBerry definitely will not.

Well first of all everything we know about Samsung's chip is based on rumors.
2ndly the 805 was expected early 2014, and is now coming out mid 2014. With the S5 most likely being released in 2 weeks they probably had no choice but to use the 800 or delay their phone. This problem will not affect the Ontario & Windermere builds as their releases are still at least 5, 6 months away.

You didn't specify 'series' in your original post, you definitely said 'processor'......

Ah gotcha. But yes, because that chipset (the 800) is reaching the end of it's life while the 805 is/will be the new high end model.

It's been said here before, I'll say it again. BlackBerry needs to be not only good enough, but exceed expectations. Their salvation lies in doing something really new, not just keeping up with the others. Being a me too contender offering older tech will only reinforce the view that most people have about them. It's damaging.

Plenty of new phones still launching with the 800 this year... Anyway, specs aren't the whole story.

If they are, I'm willing to bet that they're going to be launched early this year. The Z50 (or whatever) will probably be launched late in the year, and by then, just like the Z30, it will probably be DOA. Even if BlackBerry got it out right now, they can't do what everyone else is doing. They already have an awful reputation. If they actually put out a true high end device, that could work to change it. They need SOMETHING to wow people.

I'm going to buy an Ontario either way, but they need the buzz of having a newer series than the SG5

I dont think the general consumer, prosumer or enterprise customer will sway their choice just because a device has the 800 rather than the 805. Its not like ontario and windermere will be equipped with an ancient soc. Its still on the same series number and on paper do you think people will notice the difference?

Of coarse I would love the 805 but give me a 800 processor with 3 GB of RAM and I will be perfectly content....until that octo-core device comes out lol

People would notice a better battery, camera, and video streaming. I don't think they would notice much of a difference in speed though...except maybe on boot up.
