Personally for me I'm more then happy with the processing power of the 800.
However I was looking at the specs of the 805 and started thinking that maybe I want that instead. Not because of the CPU, but because of the Adreno 420 GPU & the Soc.

The Snapdragon 805 features hardware accelerated decode of H.265 content, and 2-stream dual-band 802.11ac.

I travel a lot and when I'm in my hotel room I like to relax and watch a movie or TV show of my choosing. Instead of dealing with finding something on TV I just hook up my phone to the room's TV and watch stuff that I brought with me. This works great despite draining the battery. However the phone does get a bit warm & if I'm doing other stuff on it while watching TV (which I'm almost always doing) it can get laggy as the phone is spending most of it's energy streaming the video to the TV. I think the 805 could really improve this, and that is why I'm kinda hoping they end up using an 805 Chip (even though I don't think they will)

    What do you guys think?

Oh & the 805 also has a number of enhancements to improve the camera. Who doesn't like a faster better quality camera?

Did I forget to mention that it will also have a new 20nm LTE Modem (the MDM9x35) which should greatly improve Battery usage on LTE while also being twice as fast as the more power hungry 28nm MDM9x25.

Spec of the processor is not the only thing for an ultimate design. It all depends on solving the bottle neck problem. Oh, boy, look like you are the paper type. (add some cooling method to you device might do much better job for you as for now) :-)

Funny that you mentioned temperature as the 805 has better thermals then the 800. aka It runs cooler.
As I said in my post. I don't care about the CPU. I'm not chasing the spec sheet. I'm interested in the chip because it's GPU & Soc addresses a "bottle neck" (as you called it) that is of great importance to me.

....It also uses less battery which is also very important to me.

Honestly, BlackBerry needs to go with the 805. If they release another phone with last year's processor and try to pass it off as high end then they're done, and that would be pathetic. Not only is the 805 far better from a spec standpoint, it offers great improvements to the UI as OP says.

I mean obviously everyone would prefer the 805 because it's a superior chip in every aspect, but looking at the leaked benchmark it's probably going to be an 800. Why spend the extra money then under clock the chip? That and the 805 isn't coming until the middle of this year according to qualcomm so unless they don't release it until June I don't see it making the cut.

This is what I see coming:

This rumored phone, with top notch hardware for now, will ultimately launch at the end of the year with 2 or 3 GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 800, while all competitors will be already on 64-bit next-generation chips. And again BlackBerrys premium hardware will have last years high end specs. But better: this phone will ship with OS 10.3 or 11, supporting Full HD screens and quad-core chips, including many other new features and improvements, while the current product line will be left for dead on 10.2.1.

This is what I want to see happening:

The phone launches in late summer with 4 GB of RAM, a 1080p screen and that rumored Qualcomm 64-bit octa-core chipset, 20nm processed, while older devices get any software update too.

Make it happen for the first time BlackBerry.

I originally thought the Q30 would come out in March/April but now I'm thinking end of summer....which would put it's release after the 805's

BlackBerry will support OS updates on the original BB10 devices for at least two yrs as that's the length of most contracts. They'd be daft to kill off the original phones so early.

And if they did, many would leave BlackBerry.

The next high-end phone is most likely coming in October and will launch with 10.3 (the Z30 launched with 10.2) -- then the updates will roll-out globally.

I think they're going with the 800s only because this wouldn't be the first time; until the last few 10.2.0 releases, they were working on MSM8974 support alongside the usual OMAP/MSM8960.

I agree with you on that. But regardless of what you think they will use, what chip do you WANT them to use?

I completely disagree. Think of it for the long run. Yeah, they could push out a quick cookie cutter device with an 800 chipset, but it would be a rushed device with a processor that is right at the end of it's life.

But if they were to switch from 800 to 805, wouldn't the development delay push it back further? If it took them most of 10.2.0 to develop 8974 support and still drop it for being incomplete, then switching to 805 would probably result in a quick cookie cutter device with an 805 chipset...

You said you want a quick device. They can create a quick device with the 800. And it will be outdated immediately just like the Z30 was. Or they can plan ahead and create a killer device with the 805 that can actually compete. How would an 805 device be a cookie cutter? They have all this time to develop it.

They had all the time that 10.2.0 was in development to come out with a quad core Z30 (which we know they were working on), but that didn't happen. Now, they can either use all of the work that they had done previously and get a release-ready Snapdragon 800 phone, or start over again (with a smaller, post-layoff team) with the 805, delay that to oblivion and end up having to backtrack to the 800.

How do you know they were planning to go quad core? I remember plenty of leaks far before the Z30 was released that said dual core.

Ultimately I believe the 805 will be used for a phone releasing 2015.

Would rather it be earlier but seems like the 800 is this year 805 next year.

Oh so great. Then BlackBerry will be behind in technology not once, or twice, but three times. They're always going to be using last year's chipset.

Among other things, files like this:
    Code:
    http://cdn.fs.sl.blackberry.com/fs/qnx/production/c7f6113580745236761e63aa68379cb019b73ecf/com.qnx.qcfm.radio.qc8974/10.2.0.784/qc8974-10.2.0.784-nto+armle-v7+signed.bar
Supported devices are Aquila, Aquarius (AQ series) and Parana (dev platform), AQ being A-series, Quad-core.

MSM8974 radio files exist from 10.2.0.784 to 10.2.0.1768, which appears to be where they stopped.

Not sure, but yes the 805 would increase the cost, but I personally would be willing to pay the extra, this is supposed to be a "high end" phone after all. As for those on a budget, BlackBerry has the Foxconn phones.
