I have a bunch of friends in Peru, all of them are in college students so some of them have parents that tell them to work if they want to get new phones and such, like a lot of parents should, and so far multiple friends have bought a Moto G instead of a BlackBerry 10 phone because of the price.

Even Apple is seeing market share diminish as they have the highest average selling price across their models. Price definitely matters in phones.

This fact makes it hard to see anyone surviving in the handset market as a niche player. Niche players need very high pricing usually to thrive. (see Apple's Mac business for example)

My daughter wanted a BlackBerry when she was old enough to receive a smartphone but the Z10 was just too pricey for me to justify the purchase, last year . She finally did get her Z10 beginning of this year. Found one on Ebay in mint condition around the $200 mark.

Well tell that to some of the people here who swear $700+ or however much the Z30 was at launch was fair or whatever. All those friends in Peru who now have the Moto G like BlackBerry, had one before the G and would have gotten one if it wasn't for the price. Just because one of BlackBerry's biggest market is the corporate one doesn't mean that every consumer is a rich corporate one. I, myself, only have a Z10 because I found one for $100 and if it wasn't for that I would have gotten the G too.

Well said but the Z30 is Blackberry's current high end phone while the Motorola G is not. Thus, as someone else said, the Z3 needs to fill that niche.

It's not just price, but also value...what you are getting for the dollar.

The z10 gives you more value than the G but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people don't know it. But also, the G isn't trash so if someone sees it lower than the Z they might still get it just because it costs less.

Because the Z30 is BlackBerry's current flagship doesn't mean it has to be priced as high as it was.

You and I believe that but obviously BlackBerry did not. Even so, I doubt they could price it as low as the G. The G is Android which is infinitely more popular that BB10. That is the main stumbling block.
