I am not a BB user but I play one on TV.

I have a client who uses BB with T-mobile. We just moved her MX for her domain and have all email running through Exchange Defender. She has begun receiving spam on BB (not pc) and mentioned that when they were with 1and1.com she didn't.

I've been poking around and ran across this entry blackberryforums.pinstack.com/60088-does_bis_get_emails_before_the_isp_spam_filters.ht ml Does BIS get emails before the ISP spam filters? - PinStack.com - BlackBerry forums but I'm still unclear whether her device is popping the email or if it's accessing it before it goes through the filtering service.

I'm fairly certain that she's on BIS since they don't use exchange server.

I did ask her if the spam is coming through her corporate email or the bb email, but haven't heard back yet.

Can anyone shed light on this to help me understand and resolve why she would suddenly receive spam on BB when, if she is accessing it via pop, it should be filtered first by the Exchange Defender service?

BIS comes directly from the ISP and would not go through her Corporate BES.. so yes she will receive spam on her BIS account..

If Exchange Defender service is setup on the company's exchange enviroment, than any spam emails that come from her BES would be filtered..

Since she's also setup on BIS, this is why she's getting spam.

Yeap good explanation the filter is for exchange mail the pop mail is coming directly from whatever pop mail service is being used.

She's not BES but BIS, i think, since they are popping email not using ms exchange. For clarity, Exchange Defender is a hosted spam filtering service. BB has to be getting email via pop right? If so, then I don't fully understand how it can circumvent the service.

I dont understand.. Exchange is completely different than Pop3..

Exchange Defender is something that filters spam in an EXCHANGE enviroment.. If she's getting mail from a Pop3 server, that's outside the realm of Exchange..

Exchange email is a completely different beast than Pop3.. different servers, different architecture..

BIS can be setup to get email from either a Pop3 server or Exchange..

    BES is ONLY Exchange..

Edited for clairity, BES isn't only exchange, it's also Lotus and Groupwise..
