I work with cranky executives who absolutely go nuts when I pry their crackberries from their hands to update/troubleshoot them. I came up with the idea to have a spare Blackberry on hand, so I could swap with them while I work on theirs.

Of course, I can't just setup the "spare" BB as an exact replacement with same phone number and etc, because I need the actual BB to be active in order to update/troubleshoot it. So my plan is:

    1) Set up a new account with Verizon that we activate and deactivate at will.
    2) Keep charged and ready to swap.
    3) When needed, I transfer stored information to the spare from the user's Desktop Manager-- address book, email settings, etc.
    4) Setup call/text forwarding from the user's account to the "spare" number.
    5) Swap them. Now they have a working BB in hand while I work on theirs in relative peace.

Will this work as easily as all this?

Can I leave the spare number disabled for months at a time, then activate when needed?

Will email settings transfer to the spare device without a ton of configuration?

Can you see any flaws in my plan?

    Thanks, crackberryheads.

All should be well except maybe for those dormant times. Best check with Verizon about that. We once lost a dormant number with ATT. The rest is just like we do when a new device comes home.

Why not just leave it active on some cheap plan? Then when it's ready to see some heavy use, call the carrier and up the minutes. Then you can bring them back down when no one's using the phone. Also, in my experience, DM's Device Change Wizard works great -- fast.
