Playing Files from your BB's Media Card on a PS3

First of all, why would anyone want to do this? Well, I have my PS3 hooked up to a home theater setup, and I don't have an easy way to play MP3 files through it (short of burning a DVD). However, the PS3 can play all kinds of media files from a USB media card (flash drive). So, I figured, why not try the BlackBerry? I always have it loaded up with good pictures and music, and it sure would be handy to show off my HT setup without digging around for a bunch of CD's, etc.

However, it didn't work initially - the PS3 would only recognize the system memory of my BlackBerry.

After a lot of frustration (click here if you want to see), I finally have a solution that works quite well for me, and it's really simple to set up.

All you have to do is create a folder structure which the PS3 can recognize. The "PS3" folder (and its subfolders) MUST be named as shown and they MUST be capitalized.



Now that you have this ready, simply MOVE (yes, MOVE) all your existing music, photos, and videos to these new folders. Don't worry... your BlackBerry will rescan them and they'll still show up in your media player just like before (don't know about 3rd party apps here... do this at your own risk).

The only drawback is that when you create new files (photos, videos), they will be stored in the /BlackBerry/ folder by default (not sure if this can be changed or not) and you'll have to move them later if you plan on viewing them through the PS3.

Well, I thought it was a breakthrough for me, hope someone else benefits from this.

just to let you know, since nobody's ever replied... this is the exact thing i've looked for... thank you so much! i was thinking about this for a long time, but since it didn't recognise the wholedrive, i thought changing the folders wouldn't make any difference at all...
