Pentagon Preparing for the End of the Blackberry Era - Defense One

As far as I understand, BES/BES10 are still the only things they can really use.
Availability and not being tied to one manufacturer is just as much a security concern as can someone hack a password....
BlackBerry forced this to happen. They need to act fast to stabilize the perception of BlackBerry's future.
Nothing new here, all this has long been public knowledge.
That is a VERY misleading headline, suggesting it is imminent. The article itself refers to a 'just in case' scenario. Journalism (if you can even call it that) is becoming about as trustworthy as politicians. (Eyes rolling).
Sent from the future on my Z10.
If BlackBerry can set up an ultra secure system and network, so can a lot of other companies.
But I really hope whatever system the new contractors set up, crashes and burns. :D :D :D
I want BlackBerry to live to see the day the Z9001 is released!
I was preparing for the same thing, thinking about what other phone I'd use if BlackBerry left hardware.
Then their new CEO said that wasn't what they were doing, so I'm not "preparing" anymore.
I also prepare for earthquakes and know how to turn my house's gas valve off.
Have yet to do that in my entire life.
Well, seeing as BlackBerry has the patents on this implementation on ECC, the others can't use that and I don't think the DoD would be using other, more easily hacked encryption.
Except people have already told you about how that wouldn't work in reality. Answer 1 on this thread:
public key infrastructure - What is the optimal result for the elliptic curve patent issue? - Information Security Stack Exchange
Those are some crazy hypothetical comparisons they make to betamax.. me on the other hand switched to BlackBerry for the reason of privacy. Even tho I assume on the consumer level privacy is slim, but I don't endorse what Google and apple are doing
From my z30
You did notice that I said "implementation" right? I didn't say they own ECC.
It's pretty clear on implementation as well.
This has always been the case, there are always contingency plans (which are constantly revised) should something happen.
Right...

You have something that contradicts?

Kind of old news. The question is are they going to be using BlackBerry software to manage the different devices?

OLD NEWS! The article title is intentionally misleading to get people to click.

Another story about the situation. Their headline capitalisation, not mine...
WITH BLACKBERRY'S FUTURE UNCERTAIN, PENTAGON READIES A CONTINGENCY PLAN
This is the exact same article, did you even read the first one?

Pentagon will regret that decision. US government should have just bought out blackberry and create a private secure infrastructure for its departments. Cheaper than trying to figure out ways to secure all platforms. On the other hand, they did waste a trillion on those useless planes...
