So looks like verge claims DOD is not buying new phones but the 80,000 BlackBerry devices are existing. Stocks hit but hoping it still shows how much confidence the pentagon has in BlackBerry. Thoughts?
They'll still be upgrading phones and such. it may not be 80k new devices, but BB10 phones will be used. This program is still in its infancy and changes will be made.
My first thought is that I am utterly amazed at how many articles are flying around now retracting the incorrect information that 80,000 new devices were being purchased compared to the scant few that reported it in the first place, either incorrectly (purchase) or correctly (80,000 BB devices to be hooked up). Ironically it was crap reporting in the first place that spun the story into new devices being purchased. But enough of that.
My feeling is that the pentagon's display of confidence should still count for something. It should reiterate the importance of security and BBRY's superiority in it over the rest. Regardless of whether there are new orders or not, that's 80,000 iPhones that are not being deployed. That could help other businesses to stay with BBRY that might be on the fence about whether or not to look elsewhere.
From Day 1, I read somewhere that the 80,000 phones weren't all new devices and were mostly existing. Besides, BlackBerry isn't making much on selling devices anyway. It's the service division that's making the money, which is what will happen here.
I'd also like to add that The Verge reporting is just as poor as BGR..... pure garbage.
